We’ve all had conversations that feel forced or boring, or are filled with awkward silences. It can be almost painful. That’s why in this video we're going to go over 5 steps to make small talk with anyone. We’ll do so by breaking down some tricks that Joe Rogan uses on his podcast to connect with everyone from academics to athletes to celebrities.

The goal of each of these is to either get the person to like you more OR get you off small talk and into a real conversation that lets you form a genuine connection. Some will be mindsets and some will be word for word questions you can steal. They’re all easy to do, but most people don’t do them.

⏰TIMESTAMPS⏰

0:00 - Intro.
0:54 - #1: Grease the wheels early with a compliment.
2:17 - #2: Transition between topics using “reminds me of” thinking.
4:07 - #3: Ping for topics of mutual interest.
4:31 - #4: Get other people excited about the conversation.
6:27 - #5: Create a connection with people while listening.

  • One good trick I learnt is to say the name of the person you are talking to a little bit more than you usually would. This is especially good when talking in a small group as it makes them feel more heard and included. No matter how much of an ego they have, there isn't a sweeter sound to someone's ears than the sound of their own name.

There are hundreds of tip provided by Charlie (along with his other videos) and I think I am gonna just take one or two at a step, implement them first and hopefully can master them first.

  • small talk is EASY - simple evasion or red herring conversation logic. works like a charm .

    Jusue GranadosJusue GranadosMåned siden
  • What's fascinating to me is that most of these tips and such I actually learned through socialising with people from being a socially awkward kid to a socially competent and somewhat liked by most people and take parts (like a few personality quirks) of what was likeable among some of my popular friends, and kind of incorporated them all into my own personality, and learn from my mistakes. I guess that's why people say that what you experience is a big part of what shapes who you are as a person. I've actually been thinking about most of these. And the ones I haven't thought about in this video just taught me about a couple of arguments I've had lately. And seems obvious now. Lol I'm high as balls.

  • It's not just a skill, its a talent. You can not just learn it. But you can practice it to develop your skill and you hone your skill long enough, you become talented. Joe Rogen is talented. If you are a shy, non-social person, start by what comes natural to you. Joe Rogan has an artillery and he has spent time building it. And most of all he has learnt to be comfortable in his skin - that's the base. If you dkn't have it, you will come across as a creep while making small talks.
